From your President:

Duncan Lake Family!

Things are warming up after a rough winter and we are all looking forward to another wonderful summer enjoying our beautiful lake together. We have 9 fun and exciting events planned again this summer and into fall. Everyone on the lake is welcome and encouraged to participate. We would love to see as many of you as possible. A lot of work and planning goes into each event every year so thank you to everyone who contributes. If you see someone who has helped please acknowledge your gratitude as well. These events (as well as the board members’ time) are all volunteer and unpaid. We are lucky to have so many people willing to help and make each of these events special. If you have any ideas or questions, you are welcome to volunteer to join a committee. Thanks to the board, volunteers, and participants!!

Duncan Lake Intercounty Drain Improvement

The Plan

The general goal of the Duncan Lake ICD improvement project is to provide additional detention/ floodplain upstream of Duncan Lake and improve hydraulic conveyance downstream of Duncan Lake to reduce peak discharges and level of flooding. Here are a few more talking points that describe the proposed maintenance and improvements along the Duncan Lake ICD (starting from downstream to upstream) as shown on the map:

  • Conduct Woody Debris Management (removal of logjams / obstructions as well as dead or leaning trees along the channel banks) from Duncan Lake outlet to Cherry Valley Road.
  • Replace Duncan Lake Road culvert with an approximately 24-ft x 10-ft CMP Arch culvert (with 2-ft ofembedment to provide a natural channel bottom).
  • Replace Noffke Drive culvert with an approximately 24-ft x 10-ft CMP Arch culvert (with 2-ft of embedment to provide a natural channel bottom).
  • Construct a 2-stage channel (flood bench) from Duncan Lake to Noffke Drive.
  • Replace 108th Street culvert with a 20-ft x 8-ft concrete box culvert (with 2-ft of embedment to provide a natural channel bottom) and raise road to prevent :flooding (100-year level of flood protection).
  • Construct 10-acre regional detention basin/ wetland in NE quadrant of 100th Street and Patterson Avenue.
  • Construct a 2-stage channel (flood bench) from Patterson Avenue to East Paris Avenue.

From The Drain Commissioner:

April 22, 2026:

The Board has submitted the permit application and plans for the wetland/detention area on 100th Street to EGLE (formerly DEQ). We are currently awaiting their response. Once the permit is approved, we will finalize the plans and move forward with bidding the project.

We are hopeful to bid the project this summer, with construction planned for this winter (preferred) or early 2027. Winter projects can often result in more competitive bids.

After bids are received, the project engineers will compile the total project costs, establish the assessment roll, and schedule a Day of Review. All affected property owners will receive an invitation to attend and review the assessment details.
